Is this the end?
November 15th, 2008My trusty Reneka Techno semi-professional espresso machine has served me well for years, but recently started tripping the GFCI outlet on my wall. Hoping that it was the outlet’s fault, I tried to see what would happen when I used a regular outlet. The results aren’t pretty.
Looks like it’s back to drip coffee for a while..

ewww, don’t devolve all the way to drip coffee! At least use a French press!

French press is not my thing. I never get a satisfying cup from it. Espresso is my favorite, but requires functional equipment.

AeroPress. http://www.aerobie.com/Products/aeropress_story.htm $30. I assume you already have a bean grinder.

Rob, I really don’t get the excitement about the Aeropress. It uses a lot of coffee beans and the result is acceptable, but nothing fantastic. It’s certainly not espresso.

For $30, of course not. But it beats drip.

Found your video after being directed from the La Spaz site.
I’m in the same boat, techno just died after five years – Rene has diagnosed brain box failure. What did he say about yours? I had a similar failure which was just the element shorting. It was pretty easy to replace.
I also saw your comment on failing temp probes. THis was the biggest problem with my machine. I was led to believe that this was unique to me. I probably went through 10 in five years.
Anyway, have purchased an S1 replacement. Seems pretty good but I do miss the Techno.

It looks like my boiler was leaking and it caused a short. I also had a large number of probe failures. One failed about every 6 months, after the first year or two. I’m also considering replacing my Techno with the S1, so I’d be interesting in seeing your experience.
